FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY EVALUATION (FCE)

Beyond aggravating pain, injuries and medical conditions can limit an individual’s ability to work. Both physicians and employers consistently require a comprehensive measurement tool to assess workplace competence. Lynch Physical Therapy routinely administers Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs) to assess an employee’s level of disability and their ability to return to the workforce. Completed over the course of a few hours in the clinic, an FCE measures an individual’s tolerance to sitting, standing, climbing, reaching, lifting and pulling. Tasks are specific to job descriptions and are evaluated in an environment simulating the workplace. All occupations from sedentary to manual labor can be successfully assessed. The results are provided in a thorough report, which ultimately concludes an individual’s ability to resume employment, remain on disability, or perform a modified level of work.
